Planning Applications

Planning Applications are normally discussed by the Planning Committee which meets fortnightly. Details of the meetings are shown in the Council Calendar. The Agenda for the forthcoming meeting is published at least three clear days prior to the meeting.

Whilst the Town Council considers and comments on applications affecting the parish, the local planning authority is North Yorkshire Council which will consider those comments, but is not bound by them.

Neighbourhood Plan

The Whitby Neighbourhood Plan is a planning policy document written by the community to guide future development in the area over the next 15-20 years. It will set out planning policies for your area and can:

  • Protect local green spaces.
  • Encourage better designed places.
  • Bring forward housing that genuinely meets local needs.
  • Protect important heritage assets
  • Support businesses and employment
  • Improve infrastructure

The Plan will be written by the local community and will help get the right types of development, in the right place.

Information on the development of the plan will appear on the dedicated pages hosted by the Whitby Community Network. You can access the page here, or from the link in the menu at the top of the page.
